Commitment in Organizations

Author + February 18th, 2009 + no replies

The sociologist Etzioni argues that commitment—and the authority that organizations have over members—is rooted in the nature of employee involvement in the organization. Involvement takes one of three forms, ranging from total commitment to no commitment at all. Moral involvement, based on positive and intense orientation to the organization, results from internalization of the organization’s values, goals, and norms. Calculative involvement is less intense and rests on an exchange relationship between the individual and the organization. People become committed to an organization to the extent that they perceive some beneficial or equitable exchange relationship. Alienative involvement is a lack of commitment, occurring when members feel constrained by circumstances to belong to the organization but do not identify with it.

Do You Need Accounting Courses?

Do You Need Accounting Courses?

If you need accounting courses for your job, you probably have already taken them, or you are preparing to some time in the near future. You don’t have to be an accountant to want to take these types of classes though, and you certainly do not have to get a full time degree in order to understand some of the basics. If you have your own business, or if you work as a freelancer out of your own home, you may want to take a few of these so that you have a better understanding of your money, where it goes, and why you pay what you pay for your taxes.

Accounting courses can offer you some things that might be handy to know. There are plenty of deductions that you can take when you have a home business or work as a freelancer of which you may not be aware. You can also claim depreciation on many of the high ticket items that you may use for your job including your computer and your vehicle. These are all things you learn about and learn how to calculate when you take some basic accounting courses. If you learn all of this on your own, it could save you some money each year when it comes time to do your taxes.

You will find that accounting courses will help you understand what type of record keeping you should be doing for your business. You will learn about debits and credits, and about billing if this is something of which you should be worried. In fact, anyone that is opening up their own business of any type should think about taking courses in accounting just so that they have the basics. When it comes to complicated matters, you may want to hire an accountant, but some things you can do on your own.

The best thing about taking accounting courses today is that you can take them in your community at your local college, if you have one, or find some that are pretty close to where you live. Even better, you can find some simple but comprehensive courses on accounting that you can take through your Internet connection. These are great because you can complete your work in your own time, and you can work only when you have time. That means your business can come first, but your classes are still very possible. That is the perfect solution for many.

Lessons of Past Oil Crisis

Author + October 1st, 2008 + no replies

According to the statutes of OPEC, one of the principal goals is to find the best means for safeguarding OPEC’s interests, individually and collectively. To achieve this aim, it pursues strategic policies with a view to regulating oil prices above a certain threshold through adjustment of individual and collection oil production quotas.

History doesn’t lie. It contains valuable lessons for us, where it comes to the use of oil as a weapon. For example, unilateral action by several members of OPEC to impose oil embargo during the oil crisis in 1973 triggered high inflation around the world.

In our recent past, oil prices have more than tripled over the course of 3 years. This has triggered high inflation around the globe, and is threatening the survival of many industries and businesses. Ordinary people are also suffering from the pressure of increasing food prices and lay-offs, and have resorted to tightening their belts literally. The current financial crisis triggered by irresponsible sub-prime lending and the securitisation of these pools of sub-prime mortgage loans has exacerbated people’s misery and led to the collapse of many venerable financial institutions such as Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers, and caused a bloodbath on Wall Street.

Chinese Penny Stocks

Author + August 11th, 2008 + no replies

The penny stocks are the risky investments in the world. The major exchanges such as AMEX, NASDAQ or NYSE do not trade these. Instead, they are bought and sold on the OTCBB which stands for Over the Counter Bulletin Board, and/or the Pink Sheets. One type of penny stocks that many adventurous investors are interested in are Chinese penny stocks. These are low priced stocks from Chinese companies. If you are a risk taker interested in the international stock market this may be an area for you to consider.

Stock Trading Robot Review

Author + July 15th, 2008 + no replies

A few weeks ago, I received an email from a friend recommending me to check out doublingstocks.com. Doublingstocks.com is a forex trading software site that claims their stock trading robot Marl can accurately predict stock prices and all you have to do is follow the recommendations. Here is my stock trading robot review.

To be honest, the sales page is pretty full of hype. I mean he mentioned anyone can make money in the stock market with the help of Marl the stock trading robot even without any prior experience. That I find is not true.

You still need fundamental understanding of the markets in order to understand what the software is telling you. However, I did spent several hundred dollars buying stocks based on what Marl the stock trading robot says.

Want to know if I earned any money, check out my in depth stock trading robot review here.

Stock Market

Author + June 11th, 2008 + no replies

If you are considering the stock market then you will need to study the companies you wish to invest in otherwise you might as well throw your money away. Over time, the stock market is a good bet for investors but it should really be viewed by novices as a long term proposition as a quick-buck is often only something the professionals will make. Real estate is safer than the stock market and in the long term can bring great gains. For those who don’t mind getting their hands dirty, home remodeling is the way forward by purchasing a run down property and then selling it on at a profit where the money can be used for another property to make more money.

?The Sport of Hog Hunting with Dogs

Author + May 15th, 2008 + no replies

In Florida, the wild hogs are documented as having 45 different parasitic and infectious diseases, with eight of the parasitic and infectious diseases being able to infect man—plus the four tic species that live with the wild hog also will feed on man. These are a few of the reasons certain areas consider hog hunting with dogs a way to control the wild hog population, with different breeds used for hog hunting, such as bulldogs, Irish Wolfhounds, pit bull terriers, pit bull mixes, hounds, Blackmouth Cur, or Jack Russell terriers. Hog hunting with dogs is also known to use the German Shorthaired Pointer.

The dog needs to display intelligence and cunning behavior, to out-think one of the most intelligent creatures on Earth, also known as an extremely aggressive animal to hunt. Recommendations are for a tough dog, one that can hold its own and have a good nose. But the thing to consider is the environment that the dog will be in when they are not hunting wild hogs.

Define Your Trading Float (part 1)

When considering foreign exchange trading, the first step you will take in setting your money management rules is to define your trading float, and by trading float I mean the amount of capital that you have to trade with. In fact, one of the most commonly asked questions that I receive is “How much do I need to actually start trading and make a full-time income from foreign exchange trading?” But, before you mortgage your house and car and sell your wife and kids, realize that when you first begin trading you’re going to have to pay your share of tuition.

How Equities Trading commissions dropped?

Author + September 29th, 2007 + no replies

Equities Trading.

Trading commissions fell to negligible territory. Twenty years ago, it was common to pay $100 or more on a $1000 trade; online trading fees are less than $10 today. Yet, despite the considerable drop in prices, brokerages are making enormous profits, thanks to the increase in trading volume.

Peak volume in 1824 on the NYSE was 380,000 shares, though less than 10,000 was the norm in 1835. Unfair comparison, too far back? Fine. In 1992 average daily volume was 200 million shares. Today, it’s over 1.6 Billion. Peaks as high as 3 billion have been seen.

How are brokers changing their trading methods?

Author + September 29th, 2007 + no replies

Do You Need A Broker?

Prior to 1975, Full-Service brokers were about the only choice. Then the world gave birth to discount brokers and life changed. In the 1990s, it changed again with the beginnings of Internet trading for average investors. Note that trading over networks had already been going on between large investors for decades.

Along with the changes in technology, making trades as easy as a few mouse clicks, came changes in the kind, amount and availability of research. Now any investor could, sometimes for free but rarely for more than a modest fee, get up-to-the-minute information about a company’s earnings per share, historical profits and dividends, along with a bewildering array of more technical data.

My Performance In The Current Stockmarket Was Suffering Due To My Current Situation

The Nicholas Darvas Current Stockmarket Success Story (part 54)

Fighting “Them” - these grey ghosts at the back of the mind - made me reckless. I became stubborn. Even though the current stockmarket went on beating me, each time it hit me I just wiped off the blood and came back for more. I kept telling myself that I was more than half-a-million dollars ahead of the current stockmarket and therefore this could not possibly be happening to me. How wrong I was!

It was a period of complete disaster. I lost $100,000 in the current stockmarket in a few weeks. A detailed list of my current stockmarket trading at this time reads like a lunatic’s chronicle. I can still hardly believe it.

Who are discount Stock Brokers?

Author + September 29th, 2007 + no replies

Stock Brokers.

Investors who wish to save on commission fees can use a ‘discount broker’. These brokers charge much lower commissions but don’t offer advice or analysis. Investors who like to make their own trading decisions and those who make many trades often use discount brokers for their transactions. Some traders may use both types – there is no reason why you can’t have two brokers.

The least expensive way to trade stocks is usually with an online brokerage. Both full-service and discount brokers usually offer discounts for orders placed online. Some brokers operate exclusively online and offer even better rates.

What details are mentioned for Stock Options?

Author + September 27th, 2007 + no replies

Stock Options.

Options are traded on specific stocks. They detail the name of the stock, the strike price (the price the stock can be bought or sold at), the expiration date and the premium (the price of the option itself). After the expiration the option cannot be exercised and is worthless. Options have a value and are actively traded. An option to buy Microsoft, for example, is listed like this:

MSFT Jan06 22.50 Call at $2.00

This tells us that an option to buy 1 share of Microsoft at $22.50 before the third Friday in January 2006 can be bought for $2.00. Options usually expire on the third Friday of the specified month, and they are usually traded in lots of 100. To buy this particular option you would have to pay $200 (plus brokerage fees).

What Types of Trading rumors can affect stock markets?

Author + September 27th, 2007 + no replies

Types of Trading.

How does this happen? News reports, government announcements about the economy, and even rumors can cause investors to become nervous or to suspect that a company will increase in value. When the price starts to fall or rise, other investors will jump on the bandwagon, causing an even faster acceleration in price. Eventually the market will correct itself, but for savvy short-term investors who watch the market closely, these price changes can offer opportunities for profitable trading.

Stock brokers can also provide quotes – either online or by telephone in the case of full-service brokers. What are passively managed mutual funds and their relation with Stock Indexes?

Author + September 26th, 2007 + no replies

Stock Indexes.

As well as giving an overall grade to a particular economy, indexes can also be an investment instrument. Mutual funds based on indexes are known as ‘passively managed mutual funds’ and have been shown to consistently outperform managed funds. Mutual funds based on an index simply duplicate the holdings where the index is based on. Thus if the Dow Jones rises by 1% the fund based on the Dow Jones also rises by the same amount. This has the advantage of lower costs for research and transactions – savings that can be passed on to the investor who participates in these funds.

Some of these services have a better track record than others – it’s a good idea to research them before signing up.

How companies carry out Stock Splits?

Author + September 26th, 2007 + no replies

Stock Splits.

Stocks can be split by a number of ratios but the most common are 2-for-1, 3-for-2, and 3-for-1. Stocks can also be reverse-split – the company reduces the number of outstanding shares so that each stock holder has fewer shares than before. Reverse stock splits are less common, but can be used for several reasons: the price per share may be so low that it appears as a poor investment; the company may be attempting to stave off possible de-listment on the stock exchange; to push out minority stockholders; or as a way to go private.

What are the affects of Bull Markets and Bear Markets on economy?

Author + September 25th, 2007 + no replies

Bull Markets And Bear Markets.

Usually stock market conditions reflect the state of the economy. During bull markets the economy is doing well, unemployment is low and interest rates are reasonable. Bear markets usually occur during times of economic slowdown. Investors lose confidence and companies may begin laying off workers. At the extremes, an exaggerated bear market can lead to a crash brought on by panic selling. An exaggerated bull market can be caused by over-enthusiasm of investors. It leads to a market ‘bubble’ that will eventually burst.

Understanding Foreign Exchange Trading Spreads (part 2)

Author + September 25th, 2007 + no replies

What Can Make A Difference To Your Foreign Exchange Trading Spreads?

The tighter the foreign exchange trading spread is the better things are going to be for you. However tight spreads are only meaningful when they are paired up with good execution. Quality of execution will decide whether you actually receive tight spreads. A good example of this is when your screen shows a tight foreign exchange trading spread, but your trade is filled a few pips to your disadvantage or is mysteriously rejected.

When this occurs repeatedly, it means that your foreign exchange trading broker is showing tight spreads but is effectively delivering wider spreads. Rejected trades, delayed execution, slipping, and stop hunting are foreign exchange trading strategies that some brokers use to get rid of the promise of tight spreads.

What is Price to Sales Ratio?

Author + September 21st, 2007 + no replies

Earnings Per Share.

When a company has no earnings, there are other tools available to help investors judge its worth. New companies in particular often have no earnings, but that does not mean they are bad investments. The Price to Sales ratio (P/S) is a useful tool for judging new companies. It is calculated by dividing the market cap (stock price times number of outstanding shares) by total revenues. An alternate method is to divide current share price by sales per share. P/S indicates the value the market places on sales. The lower the P/S the better the value.
