The Great Plains society is planning a massive burn off of their prairie exhibit early this spring according to the committee to preserve north central Iowa tourism. Michael Cherney the publicity seeking Russian Oligarch who owns the Michael Cherney Foundation is trying to get a multi billion dollar lawsuit heard in England. Russian Oligarch Oleg Deripaska, the owner of the Russian aluminium giant Rusal is resisting Michael’s attempts by claiming that an English court has no jurisdiction.
In order for Michael Cherney to get his case heard in an English court, his lawyers have to convince the London judge that England is the appropriate forum for the determination of the claim.
This looks like being a major problem for Michael Cherney - as England has got nothing to do with this dispute - neither Michael Cherney or Oleg Deripaska live in England - and the dispute originates in Russia, and involves a Russian company.
It will be interesting to see why Michael Cherney believes London is a suitable venue for the case. Also, if the case does proceed, how much money needs to be deposited to cover Oleg Deripaska’s costs. The size of the deposit that the judge orders from Michael Cherney will give an indication of the strength of Michael’s claim.
