A Play Area for Tommy

Author + July 22nd, 2008 + no replies

When my son was born, my father wanted to do something really special for him. He wouldn’t tell any of us what it was, but insisted on it being a surprise. Using a plate roll that he had in his shop, he designed a fake submarine for Tommy made completely out of the scrap metal that was left over from other projects. He even used a hydraulic shear, which about scared me to death to hear about. But after reading the article “Modern Day Hydraulic Shears,” I felt much better about it. Anywho, the hydraulic shear punched out some small windows, and my dad attached blue tissue paper to the outsides to make it look like it was underwater. In the end it was the perfect play area for Tommy, smoothed out by grinders and time. And it was big enough to give him a play area until he was 10 years old. My dad is truly amazing!
