Are Proprietary Blends in Body Building Supplements Safe?

Author + December 31st, 2006 + no replies

Proprietary blends in body building supplements are not inherently a negative for the consumer, though they are inherently confusing for the buyer in most cases.

A supplement that lists a ”proprietary blend” on the bottle can be there for one of two reasons:

(a) to prevent the competition from knowing exactly what ratios and amounts of each ingredient present in the formula to prevent the competition from copying their formula exactly (commonly referred to as a “knock off”) or

(b) to hide the fact the formula contains very little of the active ingredients listed on the bottle in an attempt to fool consumers.

Sadly, the latter use is far more common then the former. They see a long list of seemingly impressive ingredients listed in the “proprietary blend” none of which are there is amounts that will have any effects. This is commonly referred to as “label decoration” by industry insiders. The former use of the term is a legitimate way for a company of a quality formula from having the competition copy or “knock off” their formula and the latter use of the term is to scam people.

How Mountain Bike Gears Work

Author + December 31st, 2006 + no replies

The idea behind all these gears is to allow the
rider to crank the pedals at a constant pace no
matter what kind of slope the bike is on.  You can
understand this better by picturing a bike with
just a single gear.  Each time you rotate the pedals
one turn, the rear wheel would rotate one turn
as well (1:1 gear ratio).

If the rear wheel is 26 inches in diameter, then
with 1:1 gearing, one full twist on the pedals
would result in the wheel covering 81.6 inches of
ground.  If you are pedaling at a speed of 50 RPM,
this means that the bike can cover over 340 feet of
ground per minute.  This is only 3.8 MPH, which
is the equivalence of walking speed.  This is ideal
for climbing a steep hill, although bad for ground
or going downhill. Read more:How Mountain Bike Gears Work

I may choose from flavors such as lemon, strawberry or mango. I just want a glass of water! Is bottled drinking water superior to tap water? Some people think so and the debate rages on.

American Soccer Disappoints Again in the World Cup

Author + December 31st, 2006 + no replies

The 2006 World Cup was going to be our year to show the world that we belong on the world stage in soccer. The Americans boasted a squad with quite a bit of international experience and a hunger to show the world that they belonged. Coming into the 2006 World Cup, the United States team was ranked 5th in the world by FIFA. Another great sign of hope was that the Americans made it to the Quarterfinals of the 2002 World Cup, which gave everyone hope that this could be the year everything was going to come together. For one of the first times I could remember people in America were actually excited about the World Cup.

Organizing and Carrying Out a Community Event

Author + December 30th, 2006 + no replies

Planting a tree can be a simple yet wonderful activity with many important benefits, but many people do not know the correct methods of tree planting or even how to find this information. Perhaps one of the best ways to learn about tree care and maintenance - and to plant the trees that will provide beauty and shade for generations to come - is to get involved with a community urban forestry group. Organizing and carrying out an urban tree-planting event is a complex procedure, involving such processes as formulating goals, obtaining tools and equipment, acquiring funding, researching and following applicable regulations, recruiting volunteers, selecting and planting trees, and providing long-term maintenance for the trees. As Gary Moll and Stanley Young said “all projects to develop the urban forest, whether planting a few dozen trees…or establishing a tree-care operation, require three basic elements: organization, planning, and funding”.

Seven Habits of highly Ineffective People

Author + December 30th, 2006 + no replies

For maximum effectiveness in life, love or business, it helps to have the right habits. You knew that, of course, but don’t forget that it also helps to not have the wrong habits. What are these?

Seven Effectiveness-Killing Habits

1. Short term thinking. I knew a man who paid $700 rent instead of $550 per month for a nicer place. The landlord didn’t require a deposit, so he could move in for $300 less. Now he pays $1,800 more per year in rent. Borrowing from a loanshark to get into the other place would have made more sense, even at 200% annual interest.

2. Waiting for opportunities. Don’t we all know people who are “waiting for their ship to come in, while others are out there building ships? Work invites opportunities - waiting doesn’t.

3. Blaming. This is a favorite habit of many bitter people. When has blaming others ever motivated you to improve your situation? Talk about an effectiveness-killer…

Acidophilus Is The Good Bacteria

Author + December 30th, 2006 + no replies

Most think of bacteria as a bad thing: however, lactobacillus acidophilus is a bacteria necessary in the intestines and vagina to prevent growth of unhealthy organisms. This type of bacteria is attracted to acid, and certain man-made products can kill it. Contraceptive creams and oral antibiotics kill acidophilus leaving the vagina and/or gastrointestinal tract vulnerable to attack from unwanted organisms.

Breaking down food, acidophilus produces hydrogen peroxide, lactic acid and other byproducts that are hostile to unwelcome organisms. Preventing those unhealthy organisms from receiving nutrients, acidophilus “eats” the same nutrients they want.

Acidophilus protects against stress and aging, as well as effects of alcohol and drugs, by producing folic acid, niacin, and pyridoxine during digestion. This breaks down bile separating amino acids that can then be reused by the body…
